Allison Hilger, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, presented an engaging and informative webinar on how to use the Colorado Motor Speech Framework (CMSF), a free clinical tool designed to support the assessment and differential diagnosis of motor speech disorders. She discussed challenges associated with traditional motor speech evaluations and highlighted the need for efficient, standardized approaches to assessment. Allison provided a step-by-step overview of the CMSF, demonstrating how clinicians can use the framework to systematically document and interpret both speech and nonspeech findings. She also reviewed the administration and scoring process, offering practical guidance for incorporating the tool into clinical practice.

Session Description
This webinar introduces the Colorado Motor Speech Framework (CMSF), a free clinical tool designed to support the assessment and differential diagnosis of motor speech disorders, including dysarthria and apraxia of speech. Participants will learn about current limitations in motor speech evaluation and how the CMSF was developed to provide a more efficient and structured approach to documenting speech and nonspeech observations. The session will provide a practical tutorial on administering and scoring the CMSF, interpreting diagnostic patterns, and translating results into a clinical evaluation write-up. Clinical examples will be used to illustrate how the framework can support differential diagnosis and identification of mixed motor speech disorders.
This session supports the mission of our Task Force: to increase aphasia education among rehabilitation professionals and promote interdisciplinary research and care that enhances communication access and quality of life.
