We are excited to share a newly published scoping review, co-authored by Dr. Steinberg Lowe, examining how researchers define and implement personalized treatment targets in aphasia rehabilitation.
Personalized treatment is widely considered a cornerstone of effective aphasia rehabilitation, yet there has been limited consensus regarding what “personalized” actually means in research and clinical practice. Without clear definitions and reporting standards, it becomes difficult to compare studies, replicate findings, and determine which approaches are most effective for different individuals.
This review highlights the need for greater transparency and consistency in how personalized treatment targets are selected and described. By identifying common dimensions of personalization—such as meaningfulness, functionality, and frequency of use—the paper provides a foundation for more systematic, reproducible, and patient-centered intervention research.
